Some people are born with a knack for interior styling. And some people are not (ahem). For those who are a little lacking when it comes to decor design, Husskie is pretty thrilled with its latest find: The Blue Space. Rather than just selling individual household items, this website actually makes it possible to buy complete stylised rooms – right out of the picture. Genius.
To help create some of these rooms, The Blue Space has teamed up with the clever duo behind We Are Triibe. Run by Jessica Stewart and Christina Symes, We Are Triibe helps reinvent spaces – with the two creating beautiful interiors that resonate strongly with their 34K followers on Instagram.
On the back of their collaboration with The Blue Space, Husskie gets the lowdown from Jessica and Christina on how to best create inspiring living spaces.

1. Look at your overall scheme cohesively and identify the items that you really love and others that you are willing to part with. By clearing out unnecessary items you have accumulated over the past year, such as stacks of magazines, old mail, receipts and the little bits and bobs you collect along the way, it will instantly make your space feel fresh and rejuvenated.
2. Some smaller items in the home which often get overlooked such as door handles, tapware and lighting can really dictate the overall look and feel of a space, especially if you live in an older house or building, they can begin to look quite tired and dated. By replacing these items, you can really lift the aesthetic and feel of your home, as well as adding new styling items such as rugs, cushions and potted plants.
3. White bathrooms are a great option if your bathroom space is lacking windows or natural light, as they help to brighten a space and reflect light, which also makes this a particularly good option for smaller bathrooms.

4. You may think an all-white bathroom could be a bit minimal and risk-averse, but they also have the ability to be timeless in their simplicity. Think of an all-white bathroom as a blank canvas and add colour and character through your styling items and plants, which can soften your space and make it feel more welcoming. Play with tile shapes and grout colour to add another element of interest.
5. For a classic look that is timeless and easy to clean, opt for dark floor tiles with white wall tiles paired with dark grout – this scheme will last the test of time in any home.
6. If you are working with lower ceilings, laying rectangular tiles vertically on your walls, either stacked or in a stretcher bond style, is a great way to give the illusion of more height.
7. Play with proportions; opting for large floor tiles and smaller wall tiles can make your space feel more balanced, but don’t be afraid to switch things around and put your smaller tiles on the floor with large format tiles on the wall. Playing with tile sizes can add an element of interest to your space.

8. When selecting a grout colour for your bathroom or kitchen, matching your wall grout colour to the colour of your floor tile is a subtle way to tie the scheme in together cohesively.
9. Next year matte black tapware will still be going strong, but with an introduction of finishes such as gunmetal and bronze tapware will be making their way into bathrooms and kitchens.
10. One big clean a week, usually one morning on the weekend, or if you would like to invest in a cleaner, makes the world of difference. Making sure every item has a ‘home’ per se will also ensure you can easily keep on top of your space during the busy work week. Wiping off dust from shelves, window sills and skirting boards regularly will always help to keep your home feeling fresh, as well as taking care of your indoor plants – neglected plants can really impact the ambience in a space so it’s important to water them as required.
