So far, 2017 has been a good year for women encouraging other women to be strong and confident – particularly when it comes to the topic of body positivity and beauty. In a time where social media is at its most influential, it’s easy to forget that what we see online isn’t always an accurate depiction of reality…
In a recent trend of viral posts revealing the truths behind images on social media, we’ve seen a lot of big influencers remind their followers that they are indeed human, just like us [yes, they bloat after eating food]. A recent favourite of ours saw YouTuber and beauty blogger Gina Shkeda keep it ? after posting an image of herself to her 800K+ followers on Insta laying in bed lookin’ fresh faced and flawless.
Amongst a sea of reactions, one stood out beyond the rest… 19-year-old Paige Matthews, who retweeted the selfie of Gina, adding: “If I could wake up as beautiful as @GinaShkeda I’d be the happiest girl alive #naturalbeauty”.
Now, as far as great responses go, this could be one of the best… Gina’s response read: “Girl I have micro bladed brows, lash extensions in and lip injections – I don’t even look like this ?, you’re flawless.”
Praised for her honesty and supportive message, it’s no surprise that Gina is a role model for so many young women out there…
Paige told BuzzFeed News: “It kind of blew me away how she was so confident in herself… that she could put herself out like that, because not a lot of people do. I realised if someone I look up to can be so confident, so can I.”
