Wengie: “There is a lot of emotional instability with YouTube”

It’s been 1.5 months since we last wrote an article about YouTube sensation Wendy “Wengie” Huang – not a long time… but enough for Wengie to earn herself another million subscribers to her YouTube channel. That’s an increase of over 21,000 new subscribers A DAY. ??

But despite this success seeing Wengie earn a place in the million dollar club at just 31, she admitted to 60 Minutes presenter Peter Stefanovic last night that she would be “okay with it ending tomorrow”. [Although we’re not sure her Wengie Corn fans would feel the same…]

Discussing her popularity on the program, Wengie revealed: “The great thing about YouTube and the new media is that we don’t really get a choice as to whether we are popular or not – the public chooses. I’m just glad that they enjoy what I put out and my vibe. I really love colourful things. I like being happy and optimistic.”

She went on to explain that it’s not always rainbows and butterflies… “One thing that people don’t realise about YouTube is that there is a lot of emotional instability. One day people love you, one day people hate you – it’s a rollercoaster ride of emotions. There were times when it was very, very stressful – I think it’s a mentally challenging place to be in.”
