As Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia hits Sydney for another year, we’ve seen a line-up of some of the country’s top fashion and beauty bloggers and influencers arrive on the scene at Carriageworks.
Amongst the bustling crowds and flashing cameras, we managed to catch a glimpse of beauty influencer and vlogger Rachael Brook… and in typical Husskie fashion, we made our way up to her for a quick chat.
Giving us an insight into the prep involved for a beauty influencer when it comes to Fashion Week, Rachael gave us a rundown on all things fashion and beauty at MBFWA.
How did you prepare for Fashion week?
For me, preparation really comes down to putting together outfits – which to me is the hardest part. This year I’m trying to pull it back a little bit and just relax – it’s just about the outfits, putting together my makeup looks, putting my tan on, and just making sure all the beauty aspects are ready to go. That’s my fashion week prep, pretty simple.
Do you try and have a different beauty look each day?
Last year I did, this year I’m not focusing on it as much. What I am doing differently is just trying to get up really early. I’m the kind of person who gets up an hour before I have to be somewhere, but this year I’m getting up early and taking some me time in the morning to figure everything out – all the last minute pieces… the shoes, the makeup…
How long does it take you to do your beauty for a Fashion Week day?
It took me about an hour and a half this morning – I have a winged eyeliner on, so that takes a good 20 minutes!
Can you talk me through the products you’ve used today?
I started with a winged liner – I used an Hourglass felt tip liner. I then did my skin… I have a really strict skincare routine, using the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation, which is my favourite. I’ve got MAC concealer on, Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow, and the Two Faced Melted Matte lipstick in the shade Child Star. I also have the MAC Prep and Prime Lip Primer underneath, which is so good for a matte lipstick. And of course highlighter, bronzer, and lashes.
You’ve only got a small bag there! What do you pack for a day at Fashion Week?
I’m keeping things simple this year; I’ve just got my lipstick, sunglasses, concealer, and phone chargers.
Are you going to many shows?
I’m keeping it pretty relaxed this year. This year I’m doing four shows and that’s it for me. Simple!
What can we find you doing in between shows?
Today I’m having a meeting in between shows and a catch-up, and then I might even go home… I live about 5 minutes away!
Lastly, can you talk me through what you’re wearing today?
Today I have some high shine leather pants on. I have a Nirvana band tee, a black and white striped blazer and some gold heels. My outfit is basically all Topshop, and my heels are from ASOS. Fashion on a budget.
