Male beauty vlogging, while not a new concept, seems to have really stepped into the spotlight of late – thanks in part to CoverGirlβs signing of James Charles as their first CoverBoy. But James is not the only male vlogger doing impressive things in the beauty space.
One star that has been captivating the market is Patrick Starr – who claims 1.89 YouTube subscribers and 2.7 million Instagram followers to his name. Having first stepped into the YouTube space when working as an on-call makeup artist for a local MAC counter in 2011, Patrick began honing his skills by practising on himself. When co-workers suggested he upload the videos to YouTube, he did just that – a suggestion he is probably thankful for every day.
But thatβs not to say thereβs not a lot of work that goes on behind-the-scenes of each of those short clips. “Most of my videos take between 8 to 10 hours, total,” reveals Starrr to Ad Week. “Depending on the type of video I’m shooting, that can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3 hours. Then editing afterwards is at least 4 or 5 hours. Uploading is tough, because who knows about internet speeds. [Then] I wash it all off and do it again; it’s honestly a never-ending experience, but the reward is amazing.”
